Leadership first: Olajengbesi frames 2027 around responsibility and the people

Reflecting on roughly a decade of grassroots engagement, Pelumi Olajengbesi said the coming Oriade/Obokun contest should be defined by the collective strength of the people rather than money or individual influence.

Pelumi Olajengbesi has sharpened the public argument behind his 2027 House of Representatives bid by framing leadership first as responsibility rather than position.

Reflecting on roughly a decade of grassroots engagement, he recalled a period when younger political actors in the constituency had limited institutional capacity but continued moving through communities, supporting people and building relationships around a belief in a better future.

His argument is that the political environment in Oriade and Obokun is changing. In his view, elections should no longer be understood primarily through the money, influence or machinery of a single political figure, but through the collective strength of voters and communities.

That framing matters because it changes the language of the campaign from simply replacing an incumbent to asking who owns the mandate. ITURA 2027 increasingly presents the answer as the people of Ijesa North themselves.

The statement also places grassroots presence at the centre of Pelumi’s case for office. Rather than treating community engagement as an election-season activity, he has described it as part of a much longer period of political and civic preparation.

The 2027 contest will ultimately be decided by voters, but this responsibility-first message now provides one of the clearest public explanations of the philosophy Pelumi is attempting to bring into the race.
